Where can I sell my antiques online? This is one of the basic questions we need to answer before we start. There are lots of different venues but only a couple I recommend for complete beginners and those with just one or two items to sell. Once you have tried them out made a sale or two you may wish to change and try some of the more advanced options.

If this is your very first time selling antiques online I suggest eBay or Facebook. Let’s look at the two and the pros and cons of each.

eBay

Why use Ebay?

  • There are lots of antique buyers regularly looking around eBay to buy.
  • It is probably the very best place online to sell something unique and sought after.
  • Used in conjunction with PayPal it is now quite a safe place to buy and to sell.

The drawbacks of Ebay

  • The Charges. It costs to sell on eBay. You can list for nothing or just a few pence but once you make a sale they will take 10% or more of the price you receive.
  • The Technology. If you are happy filling in a few forms, using email and uploading photos then there is nothing to be scared of. If not then Please get someone experience with eBay to show you the ropes the first couple of times.
  • Non-Paying Bidders. Occasionally the buyer doesn’t pay. Of course, you still have your antique but you have to wait a few weeks to get your money back and to resell it. This is quite rare Maybe 0ne in 50 transactions I have found.

Facebook

Why use Facebook?

  • It can be technologically simpler than eBay. You just need to write a description of your antique and upload a photo.
  • There are no charges

Drawbacks to Facebook

  • There is no inbuilt protection for sellers
  • It is more difficult to find buyers and so your collectable may not sell or may take many months.

How do I choose eBay or Facebook?

Have you decided Where can I sell my antiques online? Take a look around both and search for antiques for sale. How do they seem to you? On eBay take a look in the categories you like best. Selling an antique vase then look in pottery and porcelain for example. On Facebook look for groups that specialise in your kind of antique or find a general one such as Talking Antiques where you can list anything. I’ve a little article on how to find antiques online which may help.

There is nothing to stop you listing your item on both sites at the same time. Just remember to remove it from one when it sells on the other.
